Frog Hollering
Busy weekend. Friday night it was Johnny Brenda’s to see these guys, Frog Holler from Virginville, PA.
I have to admit, when I saw that I snagged this first photo, I had to catch myself from doing a little fist pump and going “yea!”. I’m a dork like that sometimes

Did 200+ miles today. Decided to keep OPEC in business, like they need the money. Went from the mighty delaware bay to the quaint chesapeake bay.
Share on FacebookSometimes, you need to let nature take over
The studio or stage lights are nice, but only mama nature can pull this off. Taken today in Lancaster County.

It’s important, as a photographer, to keep moving forward. To keep pushing into new areas and experimenting. Diversity is the key. It’s the same for any art form really.
I have mostly been a nature photographer. For the longest time, that is pretty much all I wanted to do. Leave me alone, away from people, and I’m happy. And there is nothing wrong with that. But after a while, you can easily get into a rut.
I’ve met many people along the way who stick to one genre, and that’s it. If they are nature guys, they never do portraits. If they are portrait folks, they never spent a second in the brush. That just doesn’t work for me.
If you find yourself in a rut, theres quite a few things you can try.
- Put the camera down, and pick up a small point and shoot, or better yet a camera phone. Try to make a picture out of the most mundane stuff around you
- If you shoot primarily studio portraits, head into the field with a model and some reflectors at golden light, and nothing else. See what happens
- Take your camera to a concert. Think you’re good with capturing birds in the wild? They have nothing on a sweating guitarist jumping around stage.
- When all else fails, it’s ok to put the camera down. I took a pretty long sabbatical from photography for most of 2007. And you know what? After picking it back up a couple months ago I feel I am doing some of my best work…ever. Honestly, right now I feel I am on a serious upswing.
The important thing to remember is keep moving. And most importantly, have fun.

I’ve broken the lighting equipment free from my closet lately. This was a simple snap to test some cables & such. I’ve always wanted to do cliche vegetable pictures, but with my own twist…so keep an eye out for something slightly different than this pretty typical shot.
Share on FacebookA gratuitous plea to my musician friends…
If you’ve stumbled across this page by way of meeting me at a show or other musical venue, help me spread the word that I’m looking for a drummer for my project, Point A to B. It will hopefully be a musical duo, which I describe as The Helio Sequence meets Built To Spill.
If you know a drummer in the Philly area ( preferably western suburbs i.e. West Chester area ), that might be interested in something like this, send them my way.

Than damn near sacrificing your eyesight for the sake of your art. Ok, well maybe that was pretty stupid. But at least the shot turned out ok.
Taken tonight around the neighborhood, while a groovy blues band played in the park near my house. Hows that for a night off. Can’t even put the camera down.

Gone Fishin’
Metaphorically speaking of course. Last week was insanely hectic, and a good start for my “career” with PopWreck(oning). So I’m going to take a couple days off this week, work on some projects around the house, err, apartment. Have to reacquaint myself with some lighting equipment, build some sync cords, and of course when I picked up my guitar today nothing but total sickness came forth from my fingers. So I need to fire up the inner musician and creative photographer, and put aside watching other people make art for at least a few days.
…Plus the shows this week in the area are total rubbish
But if you know of a good one, by all means clue me in..

Meet Liz Longley…
Singer/Songwriter Liz Longley. Last night at Steel City Coffee house in Phoenixville. It’s good to see such talented people, without having to really leave my area.

I need a vacation..
While I can’t up and head down to the outer banks right now ( it was much easier when I only lived 45 minutes from there ), that doesn’t mean we can’t take a look back in the archives and remember the good ole’ days.
There is more like that if you scroll towards the end of my Flickr gallery. I am reconsidering having a proper gallery on this site. Keep checking back, if I find the time I may try to get one up here so I can share some of my non-music related stuff from my pre-concert shooting days. I was going through some cheesy adding campy titles to my pics phase for some reason back then too. Who knows what that was all about. Click ‘Read More’ for, um, more.
